Walking the King's Path
Living the Life Jesus Described
A Sermon Series Through Matthew 5–7
What does it really mean to follow Jesus?
Many people admire the teachings of Jesus, but far fewer understand what it truly means to live according to them. In the Sermon on the Mount—often called the greatest sermon ever preached—Jesus lays out a clear picture of life in His kingdom. In these powerful chapters of Scripture, our Lord reveals the kind of heart, character, and conduct that marks those who truly belong to Him.
At New Life Baptist Church, we invite you to join us for a verse-by-verse journey through Matthew chapters 5–7 as we explore what it means to walk the path that Jesus Himself described. This teaching series, “Walking the King’s Path,” will help us understand how the words of Christ apply to everyday life in our homes, workplaces, relationships, and community.
What This Series Is About
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus does more than offer moral advice or religious principles. He reveals the nature of a transformed heart. He shows us that following Him is not merely about outward behavior—it is about inward change that shapes every part of our lives.
Throughout this series, we will explore questions such as:
-
What does true spiritual blessing look like?
-
How can believers be salt and light in a dark world?
-
What does real righteousness look like beyond religious appearance?
-
How do followers of Christ deal with anger, anxiety, temptation, and conflict?
-
What does it mean to seek first the kingdom of God?
-
How do we walk the narrow path that leads to life?
As we study these passages together, we will see that Jesus calls His followers to a way of life that is radically different from the values of the world. Yet it is also a life marked by joy, peace, purpose, and hope.
Why This Teaching Matters Today
Our world is filled with confusion about truth, morality, and the meaning of life. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus provides clarity. His words cut through cultural noise and reveal the path that leads to true life.
Jesus teaches that:
-
Blessed are the humble, not the proud.
-
Blessed are the merciful, not the vengeful.
-
Blessed are the pure in heart, not the hypocritical.
-
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
These teachings challenge us, but they also point us to the transforming grace of Christ. The Sermon on the Mount reminds us that the Christian life is not merely about rules—it is about a relationship with the King who changes our hearts and leads us into a new way of living.

A Journey for the Whole Church
This series is not only about learning—it is about living. As we walk through the Sermon on the Mount together, we will be encouraging our church family to put these truths into practice by loving others, serving our community, and sharing the hope of the gospel with those around us.
Jesus said:
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction… For the gate is narrow and the way is constricted that leads to life.”
—Matthew 7:13–14 (NASB 2020)
Our prayer is that this series will help many people discover that narrow path—the path that leads to life through faith in Jesus Christ.
